1. Mechanical Knowledge, Not Just Software
The best Canadian tuners understand the mechanical side — what hardware supports a tune, what failure modes to avoid, and what the engine can actually handle. If a tuner can't explain the hardware requirements for your specific platform, keep looking.
2. Platform Specialization
A shop that tunes everything from diesel trucks to Ferraris is a generalist. For European platforms — BMW M cars, Porsche 911s, AMG — you want a tuner with real depth on that platform. Map behaviour, ECU protocols, and failure modes vary significantly between manufacturers.
3. Canadian-Specific Calibration
Canadian fuel quality, cold start behaviour at -20°C, and E85 availability differ from the US. A US tuner calibrating for California conditions doesn't have the same data set as someone tuning cars through a Canadian winter.
4. Post-Sale Support
The tune is only part of the relationship. If you add a modification later or a software update affects your file, you need a tuner who responds. Ask about support before you buy.
